Ep. 86 Cheri Lindsay | Volleyball

What happens when the mindset that made you successful is no longer the mindset you need?

In this episode of The 5th Quarter Podcast, Sandy Adams sits down with University of Memphis Head Volleyball Coach Cheri Lindsay for a conversation about leadership, identity, growth, and the mindset shifts required to succeed in new roles.

Growing up in Colorado, Lindsay’s volleyball journey led her to Prairie View A&M, where she became one of the most accomplished players in program history and was later inducted into the university’s Hall of Fame. Today, she is entering her second season leading the Memphis Volleyball program after building a reputation for developing athletes, building culture, and creating successful programs.

Throughout the conversation, Lindsay shares the leadership lessons she learned while transitioning from athlete to coach, why understanding people is often more important than understanding performance, and how pursuing her doctorate in Sports Psychology has influenced the way she develops teams and future leaders.

Highlights:

• Leadership and building culture
• The mindset shift from athlete to coach
• Identity beyond titles and performance
• Sports psychology and mental performance
• The 901 Women initiative
• Professional opportunities in volleyball
• The future of Memphis Volleyball

Whether you lead a team, an organization, a classroom, or simply want to grow as a leader, this conversation offers valuable insights on leadership, personal development, and embracing change.
